Task 23 - Feedback

I am glad that I am finally posting this last task before I go on leave. I'd love to learn new things especially to keep up to date with new technologies eventhough they are not really relevant to my current job. Thanks to Phung who was a great helper when I got stuck. I've learnt lots of new things and enjoyed doing some of the activities as they are useful for personal use. For the library to improve its service, possibly online communication services as mentioned in task 22 would be helpful for reference enquires.

Task 22 - Online communication tools

I never used online communication tools before although I see lots of people using these to communicate. My sister is a fan of online chat. She enjoys using it because she can see the other person through her web cam and it saves her heaps with long distance phone calls charge. Anyway, I added Google Talk to my blog in case I need to use it. I think it is very useful having these services offer in the libraries to communicate with students outside the libraries as many libraries around the world already have been using these communication tools.

Task 21 - Podcasts

There are so many podcasts on Health to choose. Just added one from the list to my Google Reader blog.

Task 18 - Library 2.0

It's my first time experience with Encore- the new library catalogue search interface. I quite like it. It also provides access to all the sources traditionally available via the catalogue and yet there are more features added e.g., enable to refine search result, spell check etc…

Task 19 - Wiki

I used to have a dog but it passed away. Can't affort to have a new one and have time looking after it. Found a photo of sad puppies looking for a new home which is advertised on Trading Post. I have posted it on the VU Wiki Library.

Task 17 - Delicious things

I signed up for a delicious account and found some interesting websites. Took quite a bit of time thinking what appropriate key words I should use in Tag field.

Task 16 - IGoogle Home Page

I am so happy that now I have my own IGoogle homepage. Allowing me to organise all my favourite gadgets and browse them on one page without having to know any code or html.

Task 15 - Google Book Search & Google Scholar

Had a few searches at Google Book Search. Enables viewer to view contents of the books and link to the publisher's website and bookseller. Some books are also available in full text. Great tool!
Also had a try at Scholar Search, typed in a few words and it linked to VU Library Catalogue.

Task 14 - Google Docs

Google Spreadsheet offers much of the same basic functionality of Microsoft Excel. However, I find there are some functions that are not available in Google Spreadsheet regarding to row and column formatting and formula or that may calculate differently. I refer to use Microsoft Excel offline when I create new documents.
What I did was just using one of their templates and tried to post to my blog but it didn’t work.

Task 13 - Google maps

It's a fantastic tool. I find it's quicker to get all necessary information, direction and I can even view the street.

Task 12 - Facebook

Created a facebook account. Got a friend on my list now. Also added JSTORE applicant to my homepage. It's easy to use and it's a good tool to keep in touch with oversea friends or relatives.
